Good morning friends -

I received a live donor transplant 4 years ago on April 27. There have been a few blips, not with the kidney but with a persistent UTI requiring IV antibiotics daily for 2 years.

Last night while showering, I noticed a huge bruise along and around my old transplant scar. It's dark red, purple yellow and is limited to exactly the scar.

I haven't been in any accidents, haven't been hit with anything, not bumped into anything. It has been hurting for about 2 weeks, but it feels like a deep internal ache down my leg. I didn't notice it before because my mirror doesn't show that part of my body.

Any thoughts on this?? Has anyone had anything like this happen before??

  • Hi Keikeikelly,,

It does not seem that any members have experienced anything similar to yours. I believe it is wise to call your Tx center now, to make your team aware of this development. It may not be an emergent issue but, if you develop increasing pain or fever, MAKE THE CALL.  Most likely something caused blood to pool under the skin and this is the process of the area healing and the bruise fading.

Bruising occurs when blood pools under the skin after an injury. Hematomas are more serious bruises that cause pain and swelling.
