5 years post heart transplant with major edema

I haven't posted very much here, but I read a lot from y'all. Hubby is almost 5 years post transplant and has had NO issues...until now.

He works overnight as a security guard and came in this morning with a LOT of edema in his legs. The most I've seen since his heart failure days. I am so worried. We sent transplant docs a message, and will follow up first thing in the AM.

He said last night his lower arms, wrists and fingers were also swollen. This has happened very suddenly. From one day to the next!

If any heart recipient has had any of these symptoms come on suddenly, please reply your experience. Rejection is always in the back of my mind and it scares me to death!

Thanks in advance for any stories or suggestions...

  • I assume there was no change in diet or anything different that he did that cound contribute.  I had a Liver Tx (was on Heart Tx list but got off) but I am sure some folks with Heart Tx may have more info.  Maybe a diuretics change needs to be made.  Hopefully a one time thing with an easy solution.

Best of luck and get to the doc when you can.
