Angioplasty

My fistula is used for my Belatacept infusion with my transplant teams approval. My transplant doc would like me to have an Angioplasty just to make sure we keep my lifeline clear. I haven't had one since I was on Dialysis. I am wondering if anyone would give me a refresher. Are you sedated? What happens during/after. Thank you!

  • Hi Megan,

This procedure does not require a general anesthetic, but you will be given something to make you drowsy and medication for pain.  It goes by relatively quick (the prep takes longer.)  You will likely start in a surgical suite, where you'll meet the operating team and be monitored for a while, both before and after the op for BP/vitals and any fever.  This should be a "day surgery" procedure and you will be home before you know it.  You will be asked to report any swelling or pain/fever after being released.  I hope you have success and return to your regular routine and good health.

    • Thank you!
