Appetite suppressant?

Does anyone here take anything to suppress appetite?  I have gained TOO MUCH WEIGHT over the last few months and I really want to take off at least 10 pounds.  I'm pescatarian, and I notice that I eat lots of carbs in the form of oatmeal, bread, beans, etc.  Also fruit and veggies of course.  And nuts.  So I'm eating healthy, just too much.  Hunger is probably stress-induced and it's too cold to distract myself by working in the yard.  I'd love to know if there is any supplement (which is safe, of course) to kill some of this hunger...

  • I am going to ask my doctors about something too. They put me on prednisone and I have gained so much weight and no matter how little I eat or how much I exercise I can't loose the weight.

  • I keep my carbs to rice/pasta.  I eat rice everyday but I also exercise almost everyday - at least a bit.  I eat low potassium so a lot of veggies but only a few.  Low sugar fruits.  Berries are a good addition/replacement for other snacks.  Natural sugar and has some nutrition.  I also eat 5-7 times a day.

Soup idea is great - just skip the canned soups. Or canned anything ideally.

    Good luck.

  • Hello Anna,

It may sound funny .. but I am trying cabbage soup every alternate day.  You can see receipe in youtube. I have lost around 2 lbs in 4 days.

    Thanks

    Amit

    • Amit, cabbage soup is a wonderful plan. I have a lot of soups myself. Low carb, and lots of fluid. It keeps you nice and full and really helps with motility as well. Great suggestion, it's simple and effective

    • Wow, I would be happy with that.  I have some cabbage salad in the fridge but I haven't tried the soup.

  • I found what worked best for me was flavored water. Mio or whatever brand of flavoring can give you a large collection of different tastes, and the fluid will both keep you hydrated and help keep your tummy full. I've lost around 30 pounds now (over the last couple of years) and it was also mainly due to cutting my carbs. Sorry, but that's the biggest and most important key.All these 'weight loss supplements" will do nothing other than make your wallet thinner. I know how hard it is, but work on fluids when those hunger pangs hit. It helps.

    • Thanks, Cora!  A 30-lb loss is great success.  I like your idea.  I'll try it!!

      • Many here swear by Apple Cider Vinegar taken with lemon juice for a myriad of health benefits, including rapid weight loss. This formulation produces Hydrocitric acid in the gut, which blocks the body from converting carbs to fat and is the main ingrediant in the weight-loss supplement Hydroxycut. It is worth a look, provided you ingest it in the hours away from your meds. Beware, ACV is highly acidic and is not recommended for Diabetes patients.
