Hello all -
I hope everyone is staying healthy and enjoying the summer weather that's starting to spread across the northern hemisphere :)
After 2 years of iv antibiotics in attempt to clear an antibiotic resistant UTI, I'm scheduled for a bilateral nephrectomy of my native kidneys in a few weeks. I have ADPKD, so they are enlarged, full of cysts and probably the source of the infection.
I received my kidney from a living donor 4 years ago and everything had been going great until this infection. But even until January my labs were great. I'm not thrilled about having another major surgery and have been desperately trying to find any information from other people who've had this done but can't find anything, so I don't know what to expect. Has anyone else gone through a bilateral nephrectomy post transplant and would be willing to share?
Stay well friends -
-K

I'm sorry that you suffer from UTI. My pkd kidneys were removed Laparoscopically prior to transplant due to repeated UTI
Hello K,
I am so sorry you have to undergo surgery to rectify this issue. I would ask if Laparoscopic removal is an option for this surgery. I am sure it is less invasive and offers a quicker recovery. In any case, I hope and pray that all will go well and wish you a speedy recovery and great success!
