Discovered: The reason I was not healing

I want to thank everyone again who responded to my posts when I was writing about my problem of not healing well after a surgery. It was not until last Wednesday that I found out for certain the real reason for my incision not healing as it should have. A piece of wicking had been left in it. For some reason the surgeon had not picked up on the fact that it was left in there despite seeing it every time I had a visit with him over very many months. I mentioned it last time because it had begun to pull out just a little bit. When he did pull it out, I was surprised by how long the piece of wicking was. It should have come out around August or so but was missed. I wish I had spoken up sooner, but I assumed too much about the incision instead of asking. Now that the wicking is out, my incision is no longer leaking like it was, a very good sign, and seems to be closing up. Hopefully, thus, I can have the rest of the stitches taken out of the incision when I see the surgeon next week. It is frustrating that it was not caught earlier, but at least I am finally making progress and have an answer as to why I was having such a hard time healing. After the stitches come out, I can soon have the surgery to place another gastric stimulator which would help me tackle my nutrition issues better. I wanted to share because everyone has been so supportive to me in the past. You are all much appreciated. May all stay safe and be kept warm, full of hope during this holiday season. Many hugs and positive thoughts are being sent out to you all.

Warm regards,

  • Glad you got to the bottom of the problem.  Fact is that some Docs are GREAT, all are human, and some are self absorbed pin heads!  Over the years I've some of some of each but mostly GREAT.

  • You were due for something positive. I'm so glad you are finally healing properly. I pray everything goes smoothly from here on in and soon you'll be eating up a storm.

  • Proof positive that doctors/surgeons are human......Good think you are aware!  Happier Holidays.

  • I remembered similar incident with one of the patient in ICU, the drain pipe was flushed cut, which should have been pulled completely , that was mistake of the junior doctor , she had ubearable pain for days, than the senior dictor had through check and he found out, she got relived in few hours, HAPPY FOR YOU ,lil late but that's ok as long as it's caught !
  • Hi Bobbiejo

Glad to see this post. My heart is breaking for you- because you are so sweet. We all have to keep on top of our doctors. They are not perfect and glad that you spoke up.

I am known by some doctors and nurses as 'difficult' but I am proud of that word.  That is why I am still alive.

Happy Healing my dear!  I wish you well!
