  • Steroids and immunosuppressive medicines do take a toll on hair. The quality of my hair changed soon after transplant. From being straight, they started to curl. I noticed a bald pacth after 7-8 years and my hair started to fall gradually. Hair do become brittle and fall. I also tried few hair remedies but gave up and accepted it as a acclerated phenomneon or side effects on drugs given.

  • I am also having hair loss issue on my 7th year of transplant... not sure if it is due to age or medication.  Started Biotin but not much help so far.

    • For how many days did you take biotin??

      • 1 month so far

        • I haven't tried yet....Did you try minoxidil?

          • No yet...  I bought it but I have not tried yet .. But I will for sure.

            • Ok do tell me the results..

              My hair become very thin☹️

  • This is a known side effect of Prograf (tacrolimus) and old age. I'm not sure which applies to you but check your test results after the next blood work. Sometimes your level can increase (especially from dehydration) setting this off, regardless of how long you have been taking it. You might discuss adding Biotin to your medications with your Tx team, some members have found success there. I have been taking Tacrolimus for almost 2 decades and have gotten old so I'm doubly troubled.

    • I'm 25,Im taking tacrolimus since my tx... Now taking 2mg BD... Tac level is 4.9..

      Does biotin really help??

      • Biotin does really help - for me at least - but many other meds do not work for me due to immuno.

I take 5k mcg daily in morning.  I have since my Tx 3 years ago.  I was also on blood thinners, etc. which took most of the hair off much of my body.  Had big bald spot from so much bed time - now I have about the same hair I always have had on my head.  Oh and I have to clip my nails a lot.

I do not notice any side effects myself.  I also take 2mg BID.  Did not grow much of my body hair but enough to have armpit hair etc.
