Swollen Arm

I am curious to see whether any other Transplant recipients are having the same problem as myself and 5 others in Nebraska are having! As far as I know, we are all Kidney recipients, that have a swollen arm, either right or left, but only the arm! Our Transplant Drs and coordinator changed our anti rejection meds, because they can cause swelling! However each of the anti rejections meds that I have taken have the same side effects! Yet I find it hard to believe that only the arm in 6 patients is swelling up! Why not other parts or the whole body swelling up  if that is what is causing the swelling??
I was sent to see a  physical therapist for treatment of Lymphedema, with only the outcome of my arm swelling up more than it already was!
I have stopped therapy, and went to a generic Cellcept, against the advice of my Drs.  However the swelling in my arm since the generic, my arm has gotten better and it has not effected my kidney function at all!

If there is any one out there that is having the same situation, I would love to hear what you are doing to have the swelling go down, or what your Drs are looking at to see why this is happening!!

Thank you
Chris

  • I have pretty much excluded salt from my diet because of HBP, granted you still get some through food intake, I do not add any salt to anything! Excerise is minimal, my job requires 10 t0 12 hrs a day, (I know that is not always good) That is what pays the bills right now! That is the only thing they attributed it too, was the side effects, they changed meds, and sent me to physical therapy, however the PT made the swelling worse, the same with one of the people I met that is having the same issue!~
I would hope they would have all 6 patience come in at the same time, to maybe get more details of what and when it all started and maybe come up with a Why and a how to fix! I have a lot of questions to ask at my annual visit on the 26th of this month!
Praying and Hoping for more than what I know at this point!

    Thank you &
    HAPPY EASTER

    Hi Chris

A friend of mine has ankle swelling. She is also have some kidney issues. Do you have a large intake of salt in your diet? Are you exercising often? What is this probblem associated with arm swelling besides drug side effects?

    I wish you the best!
  • Yes it is, for myself! Some of the others it is not the case. I did find out that 4 of the 6 are being seen every 3 months, I have had this for over a year now, and the transplant team has only seem me the one time!
I don't know, maybe it is my twisted way of thinking, but I would like all of the 6 to meet at the same time with the Drs and try to get this figured out!
Thank you for your reply, I hope your toes are able to be corrected as well as my arm! I go in for my annual on the 26th of this month, I have a load of questions! See what I find out!
    HAPPY EASTER

    Hi Chris,

I posted about my little toes swelling and I have been trying to research this sorry it is happening but it is very interesting!

Is it like a Lymphadema (Fluid Under The Dermis Of The Skin)? Lymph nodes like when a women has a mastectomy type swelling?

The arm that is swollen is it the arm you had dialysis in ?
