toenails after heart transplant

I was just cutting my toenails and remembered something.  Some months after my heart transplant (six years ago) I was sitting on the toilet, minding my own business.  I noticed a line going through my big toe nail.  OK, whatever, must have stubbed it.  Then I saw the same line on the other big toe.  Then (you can't see it in the picture) I saw it in all the toes.  Eventually figured out, based on how fast toenails grow, that some signal must have been sent to the toenails when I got the transplant.  Having one's heart cut out and replaced is something that the entire body is aware of, apparently.  I didn't notice anything in the fingers.  So, thought this group might enjoy.  Anyone less than six months out of surgery?  Take al look.  Dean

  • Ditto on my liver transplant.  My nails grow so much faster now, too.  Weird.

  • I had a Liver and Kideny tranplant 5-19-2018. I have also observed the lines on my fingernails and toe nails. I thought it was a effect of the meds.
