  • Hi. I've had my kidney transplant going on 5 yrs. Feb. 7 2022. I must admit I feel really really good. Haven't had any problems with th e transplant but other issues since the transplant.  I'm now a diabetic. My magnesium levels stay low. My potassium levels are low and my bones are weak. I just try to deal with the situation the best I can but I'm so grateful that I'm doing good with the kidney.

    • Some things do go a bit sideways when you're dealing with the many medications and their individual side effects.  I have seen a lot of relief from taking an Double Wood's Essential Amino Acids supplement and taking supplements from Ancestral Supplements-I take several of their supplements.  For the low Magnesium, I would recommend topical magnesium spray bc it's more efficient--it gets into the blood stream faster.  Spray a couple of pumps into the palm of your hand and put it on the soles of your feet and inner forearms.  Do it before you go to sleep bc magnesium has a relaxing effect.

    • How did you become diabetic? Is it due to the medication and side effects of the drugs you are taking?

  • I am planning to have kidney transplant sometimes in October, should I consider have a third shot booster Covid vaccacination? I took the second shot last March.

    • The immune compromised have trouble getting the antibody response/support from the vaccine.  I would think doing it now while your immune system is still fairly normal makes sense.  BUT that's definitely a question for your transplant team.

  • For those of you whom had kidney transplant, what was the percentage of  compatiblity in the HLA between the donar and recepitent?

    Thank you,

    Jamal

  • Dear Elmer

How did you get your first kidney transplant? Was it from someone close within the family or from an unrelated donor? How was the matching? Thank you.

    Jamal

    • No it was a cadavers kidney and a great match

    • First transplant was from my mom in 2000.  Second was a perfect match deceased donor in 2020.  :)

      • Dear Kim

When you say was a perfect match does that means all the six HLA were common to both donor and recipent?

        Jamal
