How many years have you had your Transplant for?

Not at my 1 year anniversary... yet. :)

I am Interested in Transplant Friends because...

I'd like to make some online friends who have been through simliar experience who are MY age.

Which Transplant Center has or will perform your life saving surgery?

My hospital is University of Pennsylvania Hospital. or HUP. Penn Medicine.

Share how your transplant experience changed your life?

I was only on the list for less then a month. The phone call was extremely shocking and traumatic. I had no idea what I was in for. I was in the hospital for one week. I was only in the ICU for record shortest time. I am truly a fighter and will always work hard at life. I never didn't have a loss of appetite. That happened more BEFORE the transplant. I got down to 90 pounds. My husband was the more supportive than I ever could have imagined. He encouraged me to eat and now I weight 110! It was such a battle. But food tasted so much better after surgery , it helped me and definltly saved me. I still have a lot of trouble with joint pain, and I have really bad weak bones. I am doing PT and walking at least once a day. My favorite surgeon told me I will start to feel better in 6 months which will be this January.

Share whatever information you want us to know about you

I am 27 , my birthday is in October. I play Violin. I have been playing for 23 years. I went to a highly competitive music conservatory called Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. It's better then Juilliard. ;)

  • Hi Alicia,

Just read your post. I am Nachiketa from India. I had liver transplant 5 years back. In fact, today is my fifth anniversary of transplant. I can understand and empathize with what you have gone through.

Now, the past is past. Draw strength from your experience and move forward with positive thoughts. Every day is a new one. Sometime, it is better not to think too much about what had happened in the past, it troubles more. But, I know it is not east, but we can always give it a try.

I have also gone through very tough past. Feel depressed whenever I think about those days. I have started teaching myself to look forward and get involved with the things which we like most.

    Take care.

    Nachiketa Tripathi

  • thanks :)
