Share - which illness led up to you needing a transplant?
I am not the recipient. My boyfriend of 5 years had type 1 diabetes which led to kidney failure. We have been through every type of dialysis there is, ending with me administering it at home with home hemo through NxStage. "The Call" came about a month ago. He had the SKP (simultaneous kidney/transplant) on my birthday :) It has not been the smoothest road since then (or over the last couple of years!) and I would love to be able to talk with someone, anyone about all kinds of different things.

It's all so new. And it has been hard. He and I are looking forward to a different (normal) lifestyle very much and are so very grateful. We are just ready for that to start. Considering I am signing up for Transplant Friends from the couch in his hospital room....just wondering when it is going to get better? I know it will. Trying to stay postive for him...and for myself too.

you are a nice girl. your bf is happy to have you. he is sure to recover. i spent half a year to recover after transplat, now 34 years has passed, i am still healthy and live a very good life. hope you and your bf happy.

AshleyRose, I too had my kidney transplant at Barnes in 2007. My kidney problems were as a result of unrecognized high blood pressure, I believe. I started out with peritoneal dialysis at home and ended up with doing hemo dialysis before it was all over. After being on dialysis for 13 months, my wife gave me a kidney. Since you are a member of Transplant Buddies, you could sent me a pewrsonal message if you would like to ask some questions. I will try to answer tham for you as best I can.
