Where did you hear about Transplant Friends?

On Daily Strength Support Group

Are You Male or Female?

Share - which illness led up to you needing a transplant?

COPD?Emphysema and Bronchitis

Which Organ(s) did you receive? If you are on the waiting list, please share.

I am just new to all this. At this time I am unlisted, going thru the tests to become evaluated, and taking pulmonary rehab to get strong enough to go thru operation.

Drugs, vitamins, favorite foods

Spariva, Symbicort, felodapine, prednisone, antiobotics for various lung infections when they happen.

How many years have you had your Transplant for?

Not listed, just getting into the program

I am Interested in Transplant Friends because...

I have so many questions and would like to hear from people my age, with my disease, that are either waiting, gettimg evaluated, or have gone thru a transplant. (Double lung). This program I am in is new at this hospital. and tho the doctors are excellent and well qualified and experienced, since they just started this recently, they have only done two transplants, both on younger people and both with a different disease. It is hard for me to relate to that.....

Which Transplant Center has or will perform your life saving surgery?

Scott and White Transplant Program Scott and White Hospital Temple Texas This is a new program at this wonderful hospital that was really needed. It is just getting off the ground good. Scott and White Hospital is well known here for its excellence in the medical fields.

Share how your transplant experience changed your life?

Well, so far, the knowledge that there is hope out there is wonderful, even if the patient is chicken!! lol. The rehab has given me more strength and stamina, and I have even helped a "support group" friend to check out this hospital for transplant. The journey is only beginning for us...I will keep you posted...

Share whatever information you want us to know about you

I have let a lot of the negative information about transplants and anti rejection meds scare me. I am 66 and have never had such a major surgery. I am all for it, if it prolongs my life and gives me more time with my adult kids and my precious 2 year old grandson. It is just a BIG decision, and even tho every one is around me, I feel alone in this....as I said, I need to be able to talk with someone my age, with my disease that can help me understand what I might face.

Share your interests and hobbies

I enjoy true crime, mysteries, world religions research, nature, astronomy, and playing with my little grandson. Enjoy masterpiece theater show "Downton Abbey", and reading about other countries and cultures.

  • Hi Brenda

Welcome to our group. You'll find lots of helpful, friendly people on our site, and hope you've gotten the chance to become a member of our lung transplant group. I had a double lung transplant, at age 59, on 4/16/06, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas...looking forward to celebrating my 7th year rebirthday. Wanted to let you know that 2 of my children (and 5 of my grandkids) live in Hutto and Austin...so my husband and I frequently pass right by Kileen/Temple on our way down to see our family. If I can be of help in any way ( even stopping by to meet and talk with you) it would be my pleasure. Would love to keep in touch.Hope everything goes well with your tests!!

  • Hello Brenda:  My name is Ken.  I received the gift of a second life 5 years ago this April 12th.  I was eligible for a right, left or double lung.  What became available was the right lung of a 24 year old wife and mother of 2.  Her willingness to make the sacrifice of organ donation is why I am still alive today and was able to see my second, third and fourth grandchildren's births.   Never loose hope, keep the faith.  Let me know how I can help you or your family.

  • I am available to help.
