  • Congratulations Catalina!  You are so fortunate to have siblings willing to donate! YAY! My brother offered to donate 25 years ago.  He was an excellent match but he had a horse shoe kidney (his kidneys never separated) so he only has one big kidney.  But I got a deceased donor kidney instead and it last 23.5 years!  It is great that yours lasted 21 years!  It is wonderful that you feel well enough to return to work!  I am not feeling well enough to return to work.  My second round of kidney failure has not gone that well.. I am older now and I just don't snap back the way I used to.

  • I was very lucky. I have 3 younger siblings, all willing to donated, and the first one that got tested was a match. I had some complications so the transplant was postponed twice, so I was on daily I for about 8 months (nightmare). I'm feeling great now and even back at work, I started last week part-time. I had a rough first month because I got C-diff and was having adrenal gland insufficiency. So I was put back on prednisone. What happened was that I had been on prednisone for 21 years, after this second transplant they took me off of prednisone cold turkey, I was going through prednisone withdrawal with joint pain, too much urine output causing low sodium and dehydration. Now that I'm back on prednisone I feel a lot better. The goal is to get me off of it eventually but my doc says they'll wean me off of it very, very slowly.
    How are you doing?
  • Awww that was sweet of your brother!! He's an amazing guy. My husband tried to be my donor but he wasn't a match.
  • Congrats on your new kidney :). I'm so thankful everyday. How are you feeling? Was your kidneys from a deceased donor or a living donor?
  • I received my brother's kidney on January 14, 2014. I'm feeling great and blessed!!!
  • Hello Catalina, welcome to tx friends, glad you joined. I hope you receive a donor very soon. Take care, all the best.

  •   Greetings Catalina , Welcome to Friends !
