Where did you hear about Transplant Friends?

Transplant Buddies

Are You Male or Female?

I am Interested in Transplant Friends because...

I am seeking the persons who received my sons' corneas.

Share how your transplant experience changed your life?

My son was a person who liked to help other people. If it turns out that his corneas helped others to have an easier life, it will mean that something good came out of a tragic situation.

  • THANK YOU everyone!  Cisco, because I work every single afternoon/evening on Saturday/Sunday/Monday, I would not be able to join the chat, but thank you very much for letting me know about it.

Comments that I have read on Transplant Friends from recipients HAVE given me a bit of peace.  Bottom line is that it just should NOT matter that I have not heard from D.J.'s recipients.  From talking to a friend who used to be a transplant coordinator, apparently many recipients just do not know what to say to the donor family.  They also have guilt because someone died in order for their transplant to be possible.  One reason I sent the letters to D.J.'s recipients years ago was to try to make them understand that they need NOT have any such guilt.  I am SO proud of my son for making the decision to be an organ donor.  This is a very complicated issue in many ways.  I still hold the hope that someday I WILL hear from one of the recipients to know how the transplant impacted their life.  If I do not hear from them, so be it.  I must accept and respect their right to privacy.  My journey since my son was killed has been long.  As other parents know, you do not heal after losing a child.  You learn to live with the fact as best as you can.  D.J. was someone who truly LIVED - in many ways, he taught me SO much about how to do that.  (It was as though he was a teacher from the day he was born.)  I need to remember that feeling sorry for myself is NOT what he would ever want me to do.  To honor D.J. best, I need to truly live as well.  I am working on that.

  • Happy birthday D.J's Mom! Have a great day! You should join us for chat on Saturday, Sunday and Monday starting at 3 pm eastern/ 2 pm central time. Hope to see you there!

  • "  Happy Birthday D.J. "s Mom !!"

  • Happy Birthday.

  • OH I just found the birthday list.  Silly me!

  • Thanks for your note.  And a Happy Birthday from me. (How did tx friends know it was your bday?)   I'm sorry you haven't gotten replies to your heartfelt letters.  I can't believe they didn't write you back.  I haven't gotten a reply from my donor either.  I have a friend from college who lost her son many yrs ago. They rec'd numerous letters from his heart recipient but she said couldn't bring herself to reply. I have trouble dealing with that but I guess everyone has their reasons.   I hope you are doing ok.

  • Happy birthday DJ's Mom! have a great day!

  •   Happy Birthday D.J. "s Mom !!

  • Hi DJ

    Welcome to Transplant Friends!

  • Do you have a transplant coordinator or alliance (such as the Southwest Transplant Alliance)?  You can write an anonymous letter to the recipient and send it to the alliance.  They will forward it on to the recipient who will have the option of doing the same. Then you decide if you want to continue communication...

Best of luck on your quest. Sorry for the loss of your son.
