Share how your transplant experience changed your life?

After being in & out of hospitals & eventually spending over 2 months in the hospital as a top priority on transplant waiting list, I had come to accept that I was going to die. I was being kept alive through dialysis. Liver & kidneys no longer worked. And then the miracle happened! I received a liver & kidney! I was given a 2nd chance at life! I am so grateful to God, my donor & his/her family. Your perception of life changes. You realize how precious it is & that it truly is a gift & should never be taken for granted. I have been truly blessed through the selflessness of another!

  • Hi sam,
Yeah, I am sitting in hospital waiting room at this moment! White blood cell count keeps dropping so I have to get a shot of something to bring it back up. They even took me off celcept temporarily & upped my prograf & prednisone! Still keeps dropping, tho.
  • Hi Diane, I have had cholongisti since February this year. I suffered bad rejection last year. I haven't been able to work cause I been unwell on, off. I do have a beautiful daughter though who is 4. I do the same just take each day as it comes. Have you had any health problems since your double transplant?
  • Hi Sam, thanks for your comment. I don't consider myself a "stronger" person than anyone else. I just take life as it comes & "roll with the punches!" Everyone has that survival instinct...ya know? I all but lost that tho, as I had been so sick & it seemed like there was no longer any hope. I was being kept alive solely through dialysis. Liver & kidneys no longer worked. But as I started giving up, my family & friends support & hope took over! I am so grateful for all the prayers from loved ones & strangers alike! That is how you keep your strength. You fight because they need you to. My transplant was indeed a miracle! I had only weeks or days left. So, never give up hope!
I don't know if I see anything about having a transplant challenging. I am just so grateful to be given a second chance at life, that any limitations I may have seem minimal.
So, are you a transplant survivor? I should've read your profile first before answering you! Lol
  • Hi Diane, wow liver and kidney transplant. You must be one strong woman to survive that. Have you found anything particularly challenging about having a transplant? Sam
  • Hi kidneyboy, thanks! So far I'm feeling alright. Still get shakey, probably due to meds, & still not as physically strong as I was. I am just so grateful to be alive after being so close to death! I hope my experience will give others hope. Even when you think all hope is gone...miracles CAN happen! I am a LIVING testament to that!
    So, how are you doing?
  • Hello Diane,

Welcome to TransplantFriends!  I hope you are feeling well.

  • Hostess rise...I accidentally deleted your comment! My bad! Anyways,to answer your question, I believe the ciprofloxin will be over in october. They also added ursodiol to my smorgasbord of meds! I have gone way down with the celcept due to low white count. But they also upped my prograff & prednisone.
