Where did you hear about Transplant Friends?
A new transplant friend told me about the website
Share - which illness led up to you needing a transplant?
I was diagnosed with IPF in Jan. 2005 and I went to Vanderbilt Hospital for 5 years working with them on research drugs as a volunteer user. As I got worse from the IPF I started considering lung transplants as the only option I had for survival. I needed three bypasses for heart blockage and Vanderbilt would not give me lungs with heart issues but guided me to Duke University Hospital and Dr. David Zaas. I received my left lung 11/10/10 and right lung on 1/19/11
Which Organ(s) did you receive? If you are on the waiting list, please share.
left and right lungs from two different donors
How many years have you had your Transplant for?
less than a year
I am Interested in Transplant Friends because...
They help get pre and post transplant recipients together and they can help each other through the transplant processes. There is so much that pre transplant patients need to know to help them be the very best they can be when they receive a transplanted organ.
Which Transplant Center has or will perform your life saving surgery?
Duke University Hospital gave me two lungs from two donors at different times (left 11/10/10 and right 1/19/11). They are very knowledgable and the fastest hospital that receives lungs for transplant. High rate of success and the very best preparing you for transplant.
Share how your transplant experience changed your life?
I have been clear of rejection since Nov. 2010 and can breathe well, walk long distances, and enjoy life without oxygen support. My Christian faith is much stronger and I share a lot of info with others about transplantation. Others sacrificed so that I could have good lungs, you should always treat them with the care they deserve.

Happy Birthday Jim !
Hello, thank you! Congrats! on your upcoming anniversary. I had my double lung tx in May 4, 2011. My six month mark is coming up, can't wait. Does it get better as time goes on. I'm not complaining, I'm very grateful. I do have more good days then bad. I'm starting to take my dogs for small walks down the street, good because one of them gained some weight. I do have a question I would like to ask everyone but I'm having trouble figuring how to do this. I go to mypage and type in the box that's reads what's happening then click on share but it won't send/post it. What am I doing wrong?
