  • Hi Lola,
Love your name and the song L.O.L.A. Lola.....I've been trying to find "pre-lung Friends" this afternoon. And here you are. I am also in a program (at Columbia/New York Presbyterian) but I'm not quite sick enough to be added to the list. I have ILD hypersensitivy pneumonitis. I've been on O2 about 18 months now and lots of other meds as needed. And just to stay ahead of things, I'm going to put my house on the market next week. My plan is to move in with my daughter...she says it's ok, I'm feeling like I need to give up on trying to maintain my house on my own, but Catholic girl guilt makes me feel like I'm intruding in her life.

I read one of your previous posts about weight issues. Don't know if you've had success at this point, but I gained about 30 pounds after nearly a year of 60mg Prednisone daily. My lung doc at Yale gave me the key to loosing. It worked for me. It is to cut out salt, fat, and sugar...all at the same time. It really wasn't bad after three or four days. It changed my entire shopping experience, but everything except my lungs are very healthy now. It's the combination of these three things that makes it successful. So the diet is fresh or frozen fruits, vegetables, yogurt, small portions of meat or other protein. I am on approximately 1000 calories a day, but only 5'2". I started with Healthy Choice dinners about 220 or so calories to get myself used to the portion sizes. It started coming off quickly. If I don't have food in the house I don't eat it or crave it anymore.

    Happy Halloween,
