Share how your transplant experience changed your life?

Each morning begins a new lifetime ... 16 new hours to spend on the things that are important to me. If there is a next day, I will enjoy that lifetime as well. When the end time comes and the next days are gone, a new journey will begin and I will be content with the time I was given here.

  • Thanks Mark

Feeling much better today.  Vented to a couple more people and had a laugh, still feeling a little sad especially if I think about her so I'm trying  not to.  :)

  • Great information.  Yes, my polycystic disease (PLD) is very advanced, and rare.  The current volume of my liver is just over 7000 cc's.  So, that is the equivalant of 3 1/2 big bottles of soda (2 liter type). So, there is an over crowding problem! No room for anything else in my body, like my stomach, intestines, lungs, etc.  My Meld number is a 20 right now, and that is where I started.  This is all still new to me.  I just learned I even had PLD in August.  I will apply to UNOS for more points in early March, and should get 3 more.  I should get 3 points every 3 months.  My blood work still looks very good, it truly is a space problem.  Malnutrition is the biggest hurdle for me right now.  I have lost 30lbs in the last few months.  I am disappointed that you were all the way to a 32 before you got the call.  I was hoping with your proximity to the hospital it would be closer to 27-28.  I really hope that I will get to celebrate my 40th birthday in July with a new liver.  We shall see.  I will see what other questions pop up.  Thanks again.  Tracy

  • Thank you so much, for replying.  I am pretty tech savvy, but am still getting used to how this site works.  Yes, Liver disease is a bit inconvenient for me.  With 4 elementary school kids, and 2 with special needs, oh ya, and a full time job. Yikes! Thank goodness for a good support system.  I guess my questions are probably odd...I wondered what your original MELD was? How quickly did you move up the list? How did your center let you know that you were getting close, or did they? How much lead time did you get.  How was the immediate post op?  I am a bit afraid of being on a ventilator.  Were you in a lot of pain before surgery (I am), how about after?  Sorry, That is probably enough for now.  I hope that all isn't too overwhelming.  Thank you again!

  • I took a lesson from the coach, haha.  They're probably not going to the pro bowl :'(  Sorry, I'm still enjoying it.  Keep watching the sports channel where they keep repeating it. Priceless!! lol
