Share - which illness led up to you needing a transplant?

I have yet to receive my new lung tx and would like to connect with people to learn all I can not only about the process but meds, feelings, funding and so much more.

I am Interested in Transplant Friends because...

I believe we all have an inner connection. Together we form a 'family' via a common bond, a bond of understanding, and empathy which comes straight from the heart. I require that connection in order to alleviate my feelings of being alone adrift in a sea of unknowns. I need this group. A group of people who are dependent for the gift of life from a stranger. The entire concept is overwhelming!

Which Transplant Center has or will perform your life saving surgery?

Shands Memorial Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida

  • I  think  those  who  need  $$ in the  bank is  those  who  are  "self-pay"  patients.

As  far  as  Medicare paying  for  only  36months  is  correct.  But  if you have  private insurance you're  insurance  will cover your  meds.

There  are  also  the  drug  companies  who  are  willing  to  help  out  with  part of  the  cost.

I  belive  there   is  a  list  of  those  drug  companies  on  Transplantbuddies.com

  • I am so happy you are on the list. I too am a bit confused. I did get my transplant back in 1995. When I went for the meeting pre-transplant with the transplant social worker, etc they told me that medicare would cover the drugs for 3 years and then I be "on my own" to figure out payment. They were very clear about that, but never did anyone tell me I had to have X figure in the bank to be on the list. I am so confused by your statement.
