Are You Male or Female?

Share - which illness led up to you needing a transplant?

1. Had Posterior Urethral Valves for 6 years which damaged my bladder and 10% of right kidney. After surgery at age 6, everything was fine till 18 years but the damage still remained along with a distended bladder. 2. High blood pressure after my teens due to my unhealthy eating habits caused further damage to the already compromised renal function which led to ESRD by the time I was 23.

Which Organ(s) did you receive? If you are on the waiting list, please share.

Received a Kidney Transplant at April 11, 2014.

Drugs, vitamins, favorite foods

Tacrolimus 4mg/day mycophenolate mofetil 3x360mg per day Prednisone 10mg/day

How many years have you had your Transplant for?

0 Years 3 Months

I am Interested in Transplant Friends because...

I would like to share my experiences and help others that are in line for a transplant. Also I would like to know better ways to keep the graft functioning even after the predicted 10 years is over.

Which Transplant Center has or will perform your life saving surgery?

Apollo Health City, Hyderabad, India

Share how your transplant experience changed your life?

For starters, I am free from dialysis which although helps extend the life span of ESRD patients, squeezes the every last bit of energy you have. Free from food/fluid restrictions. Helped me in knowing who my real friends are and who are the fake ones. Helped me find my true love. Now I can live a healthy life both mentally and physically.

  • Hi raja ... Im around your age and there was also a constant thought in the back of my head as to whether there are others like me. I'm from Delhi and my true love has been there for me too and I really figured out my true friends.
  • Hi.  I had a transplant on April 17, 2014.  Like you, I also had urologic issues as a child that led to long term damage.  My transplant was done in New Hampshire, US.  I'm much older than you are, so I really feel for you having to deal with this at such a young age.

Although I am nicely healed from surgery, the drugs are a struggle.  I got off predisone, but am still taking cellcept (mycophenolate mofetil) and prograf (tacrolimus).  Fatigue is my main struggle.  Mornings are pretty good but mid afternoon I just crash.  I've started back at work and I'm pretty healthy overall.  No infections.  My creatinine is a little high, 1.6, but my doctor says "don't obsess about your blood work, it changes all the time and the most important thing is your overall health."  He says, "Let me drive the bus."  I think that has been good advice for me, for years I've been so vigilant and it is very stressful.  I trust my doctor, and I am trying to relax and enjoy this new lease on life.

I wish you the best.  Let's keep in touch?  When I was in my 20's I spent 6 months in India and it was absolutely amazing.  We were in Gujarat, so I didn't visit Hyderabad.

Sending you prayers for strength and healing.  And hope.
