Share - which illness led up to you needing a transplant?

I had high blood pressure for over 25 years undiagnosed that led to cardiomyopathy. A gradual hardening and weakness of the heart with insufficient pumping power.

Which Organ(s) did you receive? If you are on the waiting list, please share.

On January 21st I received a new heart and on the 22nd a new kidney

Share how your transplant experience changed your life?

Before the transplant I would lay in the bed afraid to move, thinking that I would have a V tach and A defibrillator shock. I tried to continue to work but gradually begin to weaken. My family was on edge not knowing when they would have to call an ambulance again. Not knowing if this was dad's last Vtach and shock. The transplant changed my life to the point that I cry everyday for such an amazing gift from someone who thought about passing life on when their life has ended.

Share whatever information you want us to know about you

Just like most life saving transplants, you begin to wonder what your course of life are you to travel. I guess I am to tell My Story. I was prepared to stay in the hospital for 6 months to a year. Maybe longer. My last V tach placed me in the hospital for five months (Sept to Feb ). I wasn't on the transplant list at that time. I had insurance that would not be in place until January 1st, 2017. After the final workup and activated insurance, I made the heart transplant list January 13th. I was very happy and prepared to stay for 6 months to year...or longer. I prayed. That day and asked the Lord that if you give me the gift by January 27th, my birthday, I would be eternally grateful. Then I asked again. God if you could give me the heart on January 22nd is what I really want. And, January 21st, God, is probably being greedy. At 2:30pm 10 nurses came to the foot of my bed and said. ..your gift has came in. It was January 21st. The heart January 21st and the Kidney January 22nd. We all cried and rejoiced. God showed mercy and grace. AWESOME

Share your interests and hobbies

I spend a lot of time working on websites and exploring life all over again. Everyday is a day I never recognized before. Whole new outlook. Plus, I have some payback to some mountains that would not let me to the top due to my weakened heart.

  • Here I am two years later. My anniversary will be January 21, 2019.  I remember writing in this post a few weeks after the transplant of my heart and kidney. I remember, in the hospital, just reading everything this forum had. I would dream of doing the things the recipients said they could do with their new life blessing. Today ...I am doing those things!
