Share - which illness led up to you needing a transplant?

I have ESRD, Stage V. My kidney's failed due to complications with a pregnancy in 1989. The complications were later discovered to be related to a gentic blood clotting disorder: Factor V Leiden.

Which Organ(s) did you receive? If you are on the waiting list, please share.

I recieved a Kidney in May of 2009 from my X-Husband. Sadly, the transplant was not successful.

How many years have you had your Transplant for?

  •  Happy Birthday Mari !

  • Dear mari (yes it's like I'm writing to myself!) :)

Thanks very much for all that you wrote. What a journey you have been on.  The more I learn from the transplant community the more I realize what traumatic experiences lie along the pathway to restored kidney health. It was hard to read about your kidney loss after all you both had endured to make it successful. However, there is so much bravery, strength, and love between the two of you that is glaring apparent in your story (and you both are so cute in the pics you have posted above!).

Its really amazing to me too how you are still able to work out and work. You must be a seriously tough woman, both emotionally and physically (and inspirational, I'd like to add).  I personally love to be active and to work out and I try to remind myself to appreciate the gift of health and the ability to move every day.  It really helps me to deal with my stress and emotions!

Thanks again for all that you shared mari. I'm always open to hear more! I'm also doing an online survey for caregivers of kidney transplant recipients. It's easy to access and will give mental healthcare clinicians a better understanding of what caregivers go through during the transplant process as well. If you know of anyone who'd be interested to take it (your husband maybe? or anyone else who may have helped to take care of you during your transplant process?) I'd welcome their input. You can let me know anytime.

Best wishes and good health to you mari!

    -Mari :)

  • BTW, Good luck to you in getting a kidney in the future!! I guess that could happen to any of us (rejection)

  • Great fishing pictures! Redfish, eh? I love to fish, too, only mine is far inland. Like to fish for bass, catfish and panfish. And you had a kidney transplant too! Wow! Nice to meet a fellow fisherperson!

  • Hi Mari. I'm interested in hearing more about your kidney transplant experience if you'd like to share? I'm a psychology grad student looking to learn more about the effects of kidney transplants on the recipients and their families. I want to improve the mental healthcare services recipients and their families are given through the process. Please feel free to leave me a comment or message if you'd like to share more about your transplant story. Thanks!

  • Welcome Mari to transplantfriends:)
